5 star corner Jalen Tabor has flipped his commitment from Arizona to Florida this morning per Bob Redmond of Scout.com. He will reportedly enroll at UF on Monday.
The talented corner from the same Maryland high school as former Gator corner and current NFL All Pro Joe Haden had announced his commitment to Arizona during the Under Armour All American game and had previously eliminated the Gators from his list of potential schools.
As has been his M.O. Since arriving in Gainesville, Gator head coach Will Muschamp never stopped recruiting Tabor. Reports were that Tabor loved “the swagger” that the Gator defensive
backs played with. It appears he eliminated Florida when he felt Marcus Roberson was returning. After Roberson declared for the NFL draft, Muschamp turned up the heat and in what was called a “family decision” Tabor decided that Florida is the place for him.
Tabor reportedly will inherit the #5 that Joe Haden wore and most recently was worn by Roberson.
Tabor’s commitment becomes the 21st commitment in this years class and fourth cornerback along with early enrollee Duke Dawson, Quincy Wilson, and Chris Lammons. The Gator’s have now gotten a five star corner in three straight recruiting classes.
With Loucheiz Purifoy and Marcus Roberson leaving early for the draft, this was the biggest position of need for the Gators. Another 5 star corner, Adoree Jackson, has the Gators as a finalist and was considered a Gator lean. It’s not clear how Tabor’s commitment will affect Jackson’s signing day decision.
Gator fans are hoping the commitment of Tabor bodes well for the recruitment of 5 star offensive tackle Damien Prince who reportedly is a close friend of Tabor’s. Prince is scheduled to make an official visit to Florida on January 24 and reportedly is very happy with the hiring of new offensive line coach Mike Summers.
With Tabor in the fold the Gators recruiting class jumped into the top ten nationally moving from #11 to #7 on 247sports.com national rankings.
