It’s been a whirlwind 24 hours for the Florida Gator recruiting efforts. One day after flipping five star corner and early entry Jalen Tabor, and losing cornerback Chris Lammons who decommitted in the wake of Tabor’s flip, all purpose running back Brandon Powell flipped his commitment from the Miami Hurricanes to the Florida Gators.
Powell, 5’8″ 175 lb, from Deerfield Beach is an early entry that was scheduled to enroll at Miami this week but due to paperwork issues was prevented from doing so. Coach Muschamp gave him a Gators offer on Wednesday and that was enough to convince him to come to Gainseville. He’s reportedly going to enroll today at UF.
After losing running back Dalvin Cook to the Noles a week ago, the Gator staff had been tireless in pursuit of a running back for this class. They still are pursuing Jeff Jones, a Minnesota commit, who’s scheduled to visit on January 24.
Powell is a smallish shifty back with a similar skill set to that of Cook in a much smaller package. Not sure yet if he’ll be utilized as a straight running back or in more of a role like Solomon Patton and Valdez Showers the last two seasons.
The Gator class is sitting on 21 commitments as of today and moved back into the top ten nationally in the Rivals rankings.
