Just one week after offering Deiondre Porter, a three star athlete from Tampa Jefferson high school, the Florida Gators secured his commitment.
Porter, who was previously committed to the University of South Florida, chose the Gators after taking an official visit this past weekend to Florida.
The staff laid out their plan for him which was to utilize him in multiple ways. A high school quarterback, the Gators coaching staff recruited him as an athlete which means he doesn’t have a specific position but rather would be tried out at receiver, defensive back, and special teams.
The staff has been working hard to bring in some playmakers to jump start an anemic offense and Porter could very well fit the bill. At 6’1 185, he’s tall and athletic but very raw.
As a senior, Porter threw for over 3,000 yards and 33 td’s. He also rushed for 1500 yards and 20 td’s.
His commitment brings the Gators total to 21 in the 2014 class. Stay tuned to Swamp Music for the latest in FREE Gator recruiting and athletic news, opinion, and analysis as we Countdown to Signing Day.
