After a busy weekend hosting a number of juniors, the Gators picked up their fourth commitment for 2015 when Jacksonville, FL First Coast receiver Tristan Payton pulled the trigger this morning.
Payton, 6’2 190, visited UF over the weekend and was noticeably happy to be informed by head coach Will Muschamp that he had earned a scholarship offer. He had even changed his Twitter profile pic to one of him wearing a Gator jersey taken over the weekend which was a portent of his commitment this morning. I had even put him on commitment watch in my Junior Day wrapup story posted earlier today.
Payton is a big, strong receiver with good hands and great speed. Just like the other three early commits, his recruitment was just beginning to blow up when Florida offered. It was a dream come true for the admitted Gator fan growing up.
Payton is a versatile receiver who has the size and speed to play on the outside/inside at wideout or in the slot. He’s a playmaker when he gets the ball in space and has the skills to make people miss in the open field, the speed to outrun defenders, and the size to run over them. He’s a good fit for the spread offense that new offensive coordinator Kurt Roper is installing for next season.
Payton is the fourth member of the Gators 2015 recruiting class and second receiver after Orlando, FL Lake Nona high receiver Deondre Farrier committed on Friday.
