Four star wide receiver Van Jefferson from Brentwood (TN), a highly sought after receiving prospect and playmaker has decommitted from Georgia per his Twitter account today.
The decommitment, which was not unexpected came directly on the heels of an official visit to Oklahoma. It also comes after the Florida Gators’ new coaching staff amped up their recruitment of Jefferson.
With the Gators in dire need of playmakers for Jim McElwain to build a new offense around, Jefferson is at the top of the Gators board and one of many they’re trying to flip this recruiting cycle.
The son of former NFL great Shawn Jefferson, Van (6-2 183) has good length, good speed and solid receiving skills. He’s a playmaker with the ball in his hands and grabs everything thrown his way. He would be a perfect compliment to what the Gators already have at receiver and getting his commitment would certainly make a splash on the recruiting trail.
The Gators get his last visit on January 30, five days before national signing day, and appear to be in a good position possibly to grab his commitment.
However, they’ll have to outwork Oklahoma who appear now to have the inside track. The Sooners currently hold the edge in his 247sports crystal ball picks.
