The Florida Gators picked up a verbal commitment today when Miami (FL) Norland linebacker Rayshad Jackson (6-2 215) pledged to the Gators.
“First of all, I think I fit the academic program and it will make successful in the long run,” Jackson said in a story by Luke Stampini of 247sports. “Football, they have a great program and I will improve tremendously.”
Jackson had been recruited and offered by linebackers coach Randy Shannon, himself a Norland grad, while he was at Arkansas.
Shannon immediately offered him after moving to Florida. The Gators were able to beat out Arkansas mainly on the personality of Shannon.
“Coach Shannon said he was going to teach me all the fundamentals of linebackers and I will be a great player,” Jackson said.
A three star prospect, many think he could be a diamond-in-the-rough for the Gators with a good upside.
He has good speed for an outside linebacker and is a good pass rusher with coverage skills.
Jackson’s commitment is the ninth of the 2015 recruiting cycle for the Gators.
