Two-fer Tuesday?

How about Two-fer Twedensday?

The Florida Gators, who have been picking up steam lately on the recruiting trail with a reinvigorated Friday Night Lights recently completed and a solid visit last weekend from a contingent of top Alabama recruits, struck gold with two strong commitments barely 24 hours apart.

The festivities began on Tuesday when rising three star cornerback Jayvaughn Myers from Dade City (FL) Pasco gave his verbal to the Gators.

Myers (6-1 185) is a long, athletic corner back with a high ceiling. While still raw, he has good coverage skills, solid instincts, great makeup speed, and plays the ball very well.

His stock has been rising quickly fresh off impressive performances in the camp season resulting in a ton of new offers since spring.

While many refer to him as the brother of five star wide receiver Nate Craig-Myers, he is a great player in his own right and an excellent pick up for the Gators, affectionately known as DBU, as they stand to lose some corner depth after next season.

Barely 24 hours later, the Gators picked up another huge commitment from another rising three star player in safety Jaewon Taylor from Montgomery (AL) Park Crossing high school, considered to the be the top safety in Alabama.

He visited last weekend with the contingent of Alabama players and word is that he almost committed while on the trip. Most figured it was only a matter of time, however, before he gave his verbal pledge and it didn’t take long.

Taylor (6-2 190) is a hard hitter with good size, great athleticism, and solid instincts able to play up near the line of scrimmage in run support or back in coverage where he’s a ball hawk.

The two commitments are huge for new defensive backs coach Kirk Callahan who has been hot on the recruiting trail of late.

It’s also the third commitment from a recruit from the state of Alabama this cycle showing the Gators have a renewed focus in the Yellow Hammer state.

The two commitments make 20 overall for the Gators 2016 class and moves them up to #12 in the 247 sports rankings.
